While there are many factors in contributing to stained teeth, the first and foremost is probably food. So here we present the different kinds and how they affect your teeth.

  1. Tea & Cofee

Your favorite cure for tired mornings contains tannins (acidic polyphenols) that lead to staining and discoloration. Tea, just like coffee, tea also contains the staining saboteurs known as tannins, so sipping on a cup of chamomile or oolong may lead to stains.

  1. Energy Drinks

Energy drinks are highly acidic and most often than not use a ton of artificial coloring, better to drink water on your workouts! Much healthier anyway!

  1. Wine Stains

The same pesky tannins that we see in tea and coffee are also very much present in wine.

  1. Carbonated Drinks

Sugar-laden beverages act the same as sugar-laden snacks, giving the bacteria in your mouth plenty to feed off of. Sodas are especially dangerous, since anything carbonated is also acidic and will create holes in the teeth

  1. Sweets and Other Sugary Foods

The sugars in delicious treats like cookies and hard candy (and even snack foods like chips) latch onto your teeth and become the main meal for the bacteria in your mouth. When the bacteria feed off these sugars, they release acids that lead to tooth decay, which may be dark and cause back holes in your poor teeth.

  1. Berries

While they might be “super” foods and have high antioxidant qualities, remember:  If it’s difficult to remove their stain from clothing, it’s going to be difficult removing it from teeth.

  1. Sauces

Pasta sauces, curry sauces, vinegar sauces…they all affect and stain teeth. The acidity in pasta sauces make teeth vulnerable, curry has a high yellow pigmentation rate and vinegar and soy sauce dishes also do the same.

To be honest, life without the above foods is a life not worth living at all! While we can minimize, the best course of action is to be sure that after a meal, we don’t let these food stains which are fresh linge in our mouth. Rinse, brush and floss!
